Nagarkot is a hill station on the rim of the Kathmandu valley situated 23 km East of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2175m. on a clear day, Nagarkot offers stunning Himalayan Views from Dhaulagiri in the west and Mt. Everest in the east. It is popular for its beautiful sunrise view over the mountains and nice short treks. Lush hills, beautiful villages and terraced fields bring the charm of trekking. The hike can extend up to Changu Narayan Temple, an ancient temple listed in the UNESCO world heritage list.

Changu Narayan Temple, with a history that date back to 325 AD , is the oldest Hindu shrine in Nepal. Just about 4 kms from Bhaktapur, temple on a hill is dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu ( Preservator of the Universe ). The two-storey temple has many intricate carvings of the ten incarnations of Vishnu and different multi-armed Tantric goddesses. Changu Narayan’s true gems, however, are the 4th to 9th century’s stone, wood, and metal carvings in the courtyard surrounding the main temple.
