Hassan in Karnataka in South India is a historical town having temples of architectural epitome of Hoysala Dynasty in the 11th century AD.

Hassan is the base town to visit Temples of Belur and Helebid ( Halebeedu )

Belur, approx 38 kms from Hassan in Karnataka in South India was early capital of Hoysala Empire.  Belur is  renowned for its Cheenakeshva Temple, one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. Temple built in 1168 AD is also known as Jewel in Stone and is famous for its intricate carvings on stone.

Halebid ( Halebeedu ) approx 30 kms from Hassan and about 17 kms from Belur is a temple complex dedicated to God Shiva. Fantastic deeply carved motifs on exterior of Hoysaleshwar Temple depicts some 2000 elephants with riders, each in a different stance, horses, mythical beasts and floral motifs. The 280, larger images of deities, mostly female, are heavily bedecked with ornate jewellery and fabulous garments.

Shravanbelagola, an important Jain pilgrim in Karnataka is 85 Kms from Mysore and 50 Kms from Hassan. A monolithic giant statue of 58 ft tall dedicated to Jain god , Gommateshwara or Bahubali was built in 980 AD is the tallest monolithic statue in the world.
