Goa

Goa  with Panjim as its capital is a state in western India with coasts that stretch along the Arabian Sea. Its long history as a Portuguese colony before 1961 is evident in its preserved 17th century churches and tropical spices plantation in the area. Besides having cultural influence of Portuguese who ruled Goa for 450 years, Goa is famous all around the world for its beaches. Goa stands 6th in the Top 10 Nightlife cities in the world in National Geographic Travel.

From tourism point of view , Goa is majorly divided in two parts – North Goa and  South Goa. While North Goa offers crowded public beaches but more of cultural aspect with churches and convents of Portuguese period along with pubs and bars to make night life happening , South Goa is known for its tranquil beaches along the luxury hotels. Life in South Goa is bit on calm side and to enjoy the pristine sand beaches.

The Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa along with convents and churches of Goa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the year 1594 and consecrated in 1605, the Baroque architecture of this church coincides with the beginning of Christianity in India. This oldest church in Goa, Basilica of Bom Jesus holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier.

Se Cathedral or Se Cathedral of Santa Catarina is one of the largest churches in Asia. With 5 bells including one of gold , Se Cathedral is a fine example of imperial Portuguese – Manueline style of architecture. Se Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in North Goa is located on a hill side overlooking the city of Panjim. The colonial Portuguese  Baroque style church was first built in 1541 as a chapel and the architecture and interiors of the church are worth admiring.

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi built in 1661 by the Portuguese during the Portuguese India is a famous landmark of Goa. The statue of Mother Mary stands at the front of the church with the tower of the church behind. The main entrance is decorated with circular pilasters and rosette band while the three tier facade has octagonal towers on each side.

Beaches of North Goa are more crowded and happening.  There are lot of beaches namely Baga , Anjuna  , Candolim , Aguada . However Calangute Beach is the longest and busiest beach in North Goa. The beach is stretched from Candolim to Baga. The sound of the waves merged with rhythms of Goan music , shacks and clubs serving sea food and beers make this beach as the hub for tourists in North Goa.

Beaches of South Goa are comparatively calm and tranquil beaches than North Goa thus allowing you to enjoy quite moments with your loved ones. Among the many , Cavelossim , Majorda and Bogmalo beaches are famous for its tranquility and cleanliness. Enjoying sunbathing or a swim in the sea at these beaches attracts tourist from all across the world to enjoy their honeymoon here.
