Abhaneri is a smalll village between Agra and Jaipur in state of Rajasthan. Place is famous for its centuries old step well – Chand Baori ( Chand- Moon ) and ( Baori – Well ).
Originating from the Indian subcontinent, Stepwells are wells or ponds in which the water is reached by descending a set of steps to the water level. These may be single storey but usually storied. Stepwells are examples of the many types of storage and irrigation tanks that were developed in India, mainly to cope with seasonal fluctuations in water availability.
Chand Baori is said to be constructed by a local ruler Raja ( king ) Chand in 8th century. There are 3500 stairs set in perfect symphony descending downwards to 20 meters through 13 floors.
